It’s important to avoid sugar whenever you feel down or you like you need to boost your immune system. Even sugar from fruits or vegetables will have an impact on our blood sugar levels as well as ph balance, especially when stripped of their fiber as when juiced. Because of this, Lemons are the only fruit juice I use when making detox juice. Lemons actually have an alkalizing effect on our bodies due to their mineral content. They also do a great job of cutting the strong earthy or grassy flavor of green vegetables in juice.

As well as grapefruit, limes also have an alkalizing effect on our bodies. Therefor a lime can be substituted or added to any recipe when desired. A grapefruit may have the same effect but may not be as suitable for the taste of the detox juice recipe. However the case, try and avoid sugars as much as possible while detoxing.  This will result in aiding the body to keep blood sugar levels stable as well as to maintain a healthy flora and fauna in the gut.
